European Online Advertising Market Surpasses €24.3bn in Value

IAB Europe’s annual AdEx Benchmark survey – the definitive guide to the state of the European online advertising market – was released at IAB Europe’s Interact conference in Barcelona.

The AdEx Benchmark research revealed that online was the best performer in the advertising market with an overall growth of 11.5% in 2012. Europe continues its strong growth curve in both early adopter and emerging markets.

No matter where any of us look, we are constantly surrounded with ads trying to tell us that there are things about our bodies and appearances we shouldn’t like. Miracle creams to fix cellulite, surgeries to enhance our bust, and pills to help you achieve the perfect weight.

Often these ads create thoughts and feelings about our body image that we would never have had in the first place. Dove created an Ad Makeover interactive campaign that puts women in charge of advertisements. The Ad Makeover lets woman share the message of self-love and acceptance through positive and affirming attitudes toward their and other’s bodies.

Case Study: TNT’s “dramatic surprise” sequel delivers modest results

The American cable channel TNT created “A dramatic surprise on quiet square” to promote its launch in Belgium in 2012. Produced by one of the leading agencies of guerrilla marketing stunts in Europe, Duval Guillaume Modem, this captivating video was watched from Belgium to the US and has since become the second most-shared ad ever. Building on the viral hit, TNT together with the same agency made a sequel called “A dramatic surprise on an ice-cold day” to launch the channel in Netherlands nine months later. Although the second video is no doubt a treat for the fans, its results are a lot more modest.
